San Francisco 49ers

Mike Nolan and the San Francisco 49ers have moved one step closer in solidifying an elite coaching staff with the hiring of Strength and Conditioning Coach Johnny Parker.

Parker, an 18-year NFL coaching veteran, joins San Francisco after spending the past two seasons in the private sector following a year with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers (2002) in which the Buccaneers captured their first Super Bowl title.

He began his NFL career in 1984 with the New York Giants (1984-92) prior to joining the New England Patriots (1993-99). As a member of Bill Parcells staff, Parker helped guide the Giants to appearances in Super Bowls XXI and XXV and the Patriots to an appearance in Super Bowl XXXI. He has been a part of three Super Bowl Championship teams and one runner-up

Following the 1994 season, the Professional Football Strength and Conditioning Coaches Society named Parker the recipient of their President's Award, presented annually to the top strength and conditioning coach in the NFL.

Parker, who has studied training methods from around the world, will bring his own unique and proven blend of strength and conditioning workouts to the 49ers. Parker began his coaching career at Indianola Academy as linebackers coach (1969-73) prior to entering the collegiate ranks at the University of South Carolina as the Gamecocks Strength and Conditioning Coach (1974-76). Following his time at South Carolina, Parker spent time at Indiana University (1977-79), Louisiana State (1980) and his alma mater University of Mississippi (1981-83) prior to joining Parcells and the Giants in 1984.

Born in Greenville, South Carolina, Parker was raised in Shaw, Mississippi and received a bachelors degree in 1968 from Ole Miss. Parker also received a masters degree from Delta State.
