Kansas City Chiefs

Kansas City Chiefs President Carl Peterson and Chiefs head coach Dick Vermeil announced on Wednesday that Terry Shea has rejoined the Chiefs as the team's quarterbacks coach, a position he previously held from 2001-03. Shea served as the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator in 2004. Jason Verduzco, who coached the Chiefs QBs in 2004, will take over duties as Kansas City tight ends coach in 2005, replacing Keith Rowen who left the club to serve as offensive coordinator of the Arizona Cardinals.

"I'm very pleased to be able to bring back to our staff a coach with the depth of experience that Terry Shea brings to an organization, while at the same time providing Jason Verduzco the opportunity to continue his professional growth as he switches to the tight end position," head coach Dick Vermeil commented. "Coach Shea's enthusiasm, communication skills and knowledge of what and how we do things will make the transition an easy one."

Shea, who owns 35 seasons of coaching experience, will enter his fifth year as an NFL coach in 2005 and his fourth as a member of the Chiefs coaching staff. A collegiate quarterback at Oregon from ~Q65-67, the San Mateo, California native began his NCAA Division I coaching career at Utah State ('76-81). After stints as the offensive coordinator at San Jose State ('84-86) and California ('87-89), he served as head coach at San Jose State ('90-91) and Rutgers ('96-00). He also enjoyed a tour of duty as associate head coach/offensive coordinator at Stanford ('92-94) and coached quarterbacks and running backs for the CFL's British Columbia Lions in ~Q95.

Verduzco enters his sixth season as an NFL coach in 2005 and his fifth as a member of the Chiefs. He entered the NFL ranks as an offensive assistant with Washington (2000). He served as an offensive assistant with Kansas City from 2001-03 before serving as the Chiefs QBs coach in 2004. Prior to joining the NFL ranks, Verduzco spent six seasons as a coach on the collegiate level. He coached defensive backs at his alma mater from ~Q97-99 following a three-year stint as the offensive coordinator at New York's Hamilton College ('94-96).

A collegiate quarterback at Illinois ('89-92), the Walnut Creek, California native led the Fighting Illini to a 30-17-1 record during his tenure. In his college career, Verduzco ranked second in the Illini annals in pass attempts (1,083), completions (678), passing yards (7,532) and TDs (42), trailing only QB Jack Trudeau.
