Houston Texans

The Texans are sick.

Sick of hearing about Peyton Manning's pace to break a record for touchdown passes in a season.

Sick of defeat.

"It's gettin~R old," defensive end Gary Walker said. "The things we do to beat ourselves is just frustrating. It~Rs time for a change. Whatever we need to do to get in line, we have to do it."

Walker's comments came after the Texans lost to the Indianapolis Colts 23-14 at Reliant Stadium. Manning~Rs quest to break Dan Marino~Rs mark of 48 touchdown passes in a season brought media and onlookers from around the country.

It was the national stage. And the Texans came up just short.

"We had a great team on the ropes and a chance to shock the country and we didn't get it done," center Steve McKinney said.

It wasn't as if the Texans didn't have any chances.

The game plan, though somewhat unusual, worked and limited Manning and the Colts offense to two touchdowns and three field goals. The Texans kept the Colts from setting an NFL record with five consecutive games of 40 or more points and kept Indianapolis to its lowest point total of the year.

The game effectively ended when Indianapolis converted a 3rd and 10 with 3:29 remaining. Manning dropped back and laced the ball through coverage to hit wide receiver Reggie Wayne on a slant.

Colts running back Edgerrin James ran the ball on the final five plays of the drive, picking up 24 yards and eating clock.

Of course it was much earlier in the game when the Texans started digging a hole.

Carr threw an interception on the game's first series and the offense went three-and-out on its second drive. Both miscues resulted in Colts scores.

The defense was led by rookie cornerback Dunta Robinson who blitzed Manning several times and recorded the first two sacks of his NFL career. The ball popped out on the second hit but was ruled an incomplete pass. The call was later overturned and ruled a fumble, but by rule the ball remained with Indianapolis.

Since the play was initially called an incomplete pass and reversed to a fumble, by rule, the ball stayed with the Colts at the point the ball hit the ground. "I don't think anybody believed we would hold them to two touchdown passes," Robinson said. "The only people that believed were the people on this team."
